Officials: Boston suspects discussed attacking Times Square

NBC News: New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly and Mayor Michael Bloomberg confirmed that Boston bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev says he and his brother planned to detonate the rest of their arsenal in Times Square. 

The suspect, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, initially told investigators that the brothers planned to go to New York to party after the Boston attack, but said under subsequent questioning that the brothers discussed a follow-up attack in New York, authorities said.

Senior law enforcement officials cautioned to NBC News that the idea was undeveloped. One senior official described the plan as “aspirational at most.”

The brothers’ discussion appeared to be spontaneous and happened last Thursday night, after the brothers carjacked an SUV and before a shootout with suburban Boston police, New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said. At that time, they had one pressure-cooker bomb and five pipe bombs, he said.
